Daughter of War, Book four

Daughter of War, by Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch was a very good book. It was about a young couple who were seperated due to war. The things that people had to face in that past time era were shocking and upsetting. When the author described Kevork walking through the town and seeing the bodies, and describing the stench it made me very upset. I felt badly for the people who had to suffer through war. It also reminds me that there is a war going on out in Iraq, and people have to go through some of the similar situations, every day. The death in this book was upsetting, and I hated to think that some people are capable of watching other humans suffer, and killing young orphans, but overall love prevails. I was happy Marta and Kevork found each other at the end, and they always thought of each other throughout the whole novel. This was a powerful novel, that I could easily read again.

Mountain Girl, River Girl Book three

Mountain Girl, River Girl, by: Ting Xing Ye was a good book, but I was confused about a few things. I thought the story revolving around Shui-Lian was a sad horrifying tale, that many people are aware of happening around the world. The story of Pan-Pan on the other hand, seemed almost like a joke. I dont mean to sound heartless, because this is a sad situation for someone to be in. But I want to know are their really people that concerned about "fox stink" in the world? I thought a different situation could have been used in this story instead of her being upset by her body odour. I realize the author uses this as a reason to make her family push her away a little, but I think many other views could have been taken. But this book was none the less a very good read, and I enjoyed it. The end was a perfect fit for the two girls.

Tweaked, book 2

Tweaked, by Patrick Moore, was a very emotional book that really got to me. The main character in this book is dealing with living with a brother who is addicted to meth. My own brother fought his battles with cocaine, but unfortunatly the cocaine won. This book reminded me of all those things I had to go through all over again. The author really knew what he was talking about when describing how it can tear apart a family, and many many relationships. I felt very bad for the character, who tries so hard to help his brother. He attempts to do everything but his brother is addicted, and out of control. The book has many twists and turns, and it certainly is a tear jerker.

Chanda's Wars, book one.

Chanda's Wars, by: Allan Stratton.

Chanda's Wars is the first book I have read this year for the White Pine, and I enjoyed it very much. I read Chanda's secret first, which was a story of a young girl's struggle living with a mother with aids and having to deal with death in her life a lot. It was very sad, and I felt very badly for the main character. The second novel involves the same characters. In this one, Chanda has to care for her two younger siblings because her mother passed away. She is trying to balance a job, and repair her broken family. She leaves with her siblings to work with her family, and a civil war dispute is raging. The leader of this war, is using children in the war and everyone is afraid. Chanda works with an unlikely person to help save the children. It was a heart-wrenching tale that I enjoyed very much.

White Pine 2009

Hello all, I am a student at Fort Erie Secondary School, and I have become very interested in the White Pine novels this year. The librarian at my school, Mrs. Townsend has made me very interested in the novels up for nomination, and I am quite looking forward to the trip in Toronto to see the awards. I am hoping to read each novel this year, and I am going to attempt to blog each one.
